LEADERSHIP

Joel Myers
Joel Myers is the GM and Director of Racket Sports in Coronado. A 3-time All-American and RSPA Elite Pro, he was the 2021 USPTA San Diego Pro of the Year. He was named SDDTA 2026 San Diego Male Pro of the Year, has over 180,000 social media followers, and features on Tennis Channel. He oversees all facility operations, including junior development and leagues, with endorsements from elite pro coaches.
INSTRUCTORS & COACHES

Angelica Gavaldon
Former WTA top-30 player and two-time Australian Open quarterfinalist. Career wins over Steffi Graf, Jana Novotna, and Amanda Coetzer. WTA Tashkent champion, Federation Cup captain for Mexico, and two-time Mexican Olympian (Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996). 2014 San Diego Coach of the Year. Coaches top players in California.

Bryan Conway
RSPA Elite tennis and pickleball professional with years of experience coaching on the WTA circuit, working with college All-Americans and nationally ranked juniors. Played on the USTA and European professional circuits. Advisory staff member with Head Sports Inc.

Sean Ehsan
Sean works mostly with players who want to move well, hit cleanly, and hold their own in doubles. He keeps instruction simple and feedback clear, so you leave with one or two things that stick. He has coached players who reached the ATP and WTA tours and Division I programs, as well as beginners and kids picking up a racquet for the first time.

Cody Jensen
Cody Jensen is a PTR-certified tennis professional with over seven years of coaching and eighteen years of competitive play, including collegiate tennis. He coaches tournament juniors, competitive players, adult clinics and recreational players, focusing on fundamentals, footwork, strategy and match play with a personalized approach.

Laila Romero
Laila Romero is a USPTA Elite Coach and former Mexico Federation Cup player. She ranked 11th in NCAA doubles at Arizona State and was a PAC-10 finalist. A certified Mental Toughness Specialist, she has coached Coronado ladies and juniors to USTA nationals. She also serves as a Cardio Tennis and USTA 10-and-Under Recreational instructor.

Manu Cardona

Patrick Huls
USPTA Professional since 2017. Grew up in Fresno, California, and played at Fresno City College before becoming a teaching professional. Coached alongside future Division I scholarship athletes and national-level players. Former assistant coach at Fresno State Women's Tennis, Head Coach at Fresno City College Men's Tennis, and assistant at Fresno Pacific University before relocating to San Diego.

Phil Hopkins
Tennis pro since 1976. Bachelor's degree in physical education and a Master's degree in biomechanics with a thesis on the tennis serve. Has coached and taught teams and classes at the elementary, secondary, and college levels, including top high school, college, and tour players. Specializes in proper stroke mechanics for injury-free play — has taught players ages 2 to 98.

Tammy Carney
Lifelong tennis player, former middle school coach, and the coach who introduced pickleball to the Coronado community in 2012. Coordinated the City of Coronado's pickleball program for 7 years before joining Impact Activities. Multi-medalist and event coordinator whose program includes open play, beginner and intermediate clinics, round robins, shootouts, and social events.

Ken Irvine
Coronado community member for over 40 years and PPR Certified Pickleball Teaching Professional. Multi-sport high school athlete turned acclaimed San Diego restaurateur and chef, now channeling that same passion into inspiring pickleball enthusiasts on the court.
